The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development hosted a signing ceremony today for the Chevening/Maldives Scholarship. This agreement will offer four Maldivian students the opportunity to pursue master’s degrees at UK universities, fully funded by the United Kingdom through the prestigious Chevening Scholarship.
The agreement was signed by Minister Dr. Maryam Mariya, representing the Ministry, and Her Excellency Caron Röhsler, the British High Commissioner to the Maldives.
In her address, Minister Dr. Maryam Mariya emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to fostering youth education, promoting innovative thinking, and shaping the future of the nation. She highlighted the popularity of the Chevening Scholarship among young Maldivians, noting that it remains a highly sought-after opportunity for both professional and personal development.
High Commissioner Caron Röhsler, in her remarks, celebrated the occasion, noting that the signing coincided with International Youth Day (12 August 2024). She expressed her delight in marking the day with an initiative aimed at empowering the youth and enhancing their skills. The High Commissioner also commended the growing number of scholarships awarded by the UK Government to Maldivians, stressing that the programme enables students to gain invaluable international experience through exposure to diverse cultures and traditions.
Her Excellency, Caron Röhsler further highlighted the “Alumni Project” grants awarded to past Chevening scholars, explaining that these grants support projects aimed at advancing the fields in which the students have specialised, thus contributing to the development of the nation.
