Maldives Needs Skilled Workers Beyond Electronic Courses, Says Maldives Polytechnic CEO

Ms. Zooshan Kamaludeen, CEO of Maldives Polytechnic, has emphasized that Maldivian youth should not solely focus on electronic courses but also consider the wide range of skill-based programs offered by Maldives Polytechnic.
On July 10, 2024, the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development, along with Maldives Polytechnic and the Maldives National Skill Development Authority (MNSDA), visited the Thilafushi site of Leo Trading Pvt Ltd. During this visit, discussions were held on developing a national-level apprenticeship program in collaboration with Leo Trading. Participants of this program will receive paid internship opportunities at Leo Trading.
Ms. Kamaludeen highlighted the crucial role of firms like Leo Trading in youth skill development, recognizing their support and contribution to the national apprenticeship program. She stated, "Upon visiting Leo Trading sites, I realized that there are numerous skill development opportunities for Maldivian youth. An electronic course alone is not enough. There are countless sectors for our youth to develop their skills and enter. Leo Trading is offering significant job opportunities for our youth."
The national apprenticeship program is designed to allow participants to learn and gain experience under the supervision of experienced workers. Abdulla Sawaadh, Managing Director of Leo Trading, has assured the Ministry of the company's full support and contribution.
Maldives Polytechnic and MNSDA currently offer national-level courses in various sectors, starting from Level 3. These national apprenticeship programs are dedicated to the skill development of youth, providing them with opportunities to gain practical experience.
