The Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) has granted permission for universities, colleges, and other educational institutes in the Maldives to teach Quran and Quran-related courses under the E-Learning modality. This decision was made in consultation with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
The CEO of MQA, Ms. Mariyam Fizana Rasheed, stated that there are currently eight fields which cannot be taught online under the MQA's E-Learning guidelines. However, MQA aims to permit the online education of these fields through consultations with the relevant authorities. As part of this initiative, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs was consulted and subsequently granted permission to allow online education in Quran and Quran-related subjects.
Ms. Fizana noted that this approval allows specific subjects, such as ‘Ma’aanil Quran’ and ‘Uloomul Quran,’ to be taught online immediately. Other subjects are also permitted for online education under certain conditions as specified by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. While subjects like ‘Thilavaa’ and ‘Hifz’ are approved for online education, their examinations must be conducted physically.
Universities and colleges can develop and submit their Quran-related courses to the MQA for approval. Ms. Fizana emphasized that any course related to the Quran can be conducted under the E-Learning modality once it has received MQA approval.
According to the MQA's E-Learning guidelines, an online course can only be conducted with the approval of the relevant government authorities and other related regulatory bodies.
