Following the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) granting permission to teach Quran and Quran-related courses under the E-Learning Modality, the higher educational institutions offering these courses met with the CEO of MQA, Ms. Mariyam Fizana Rasheed.
Today’s meeting, held at the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development, included representatives from 15 educational institutions offering Quran-related courses. This week, MQA announced that courses related to Quranic studies are now permitted to be conducted through online education. Ms. Fizana stated that, upon requesting permission from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs to offer Quran-related courses under the E-Learning modality, approval was granted by the Ministry. This permission allows specific subjects related to Quranic studies, such as ‘Ma’aanil Quran’ and ‘Uloomul Quran,’ to be taught online immediately. Other subjects can also be conducted online under certain conditions as per the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. Subjects such as ‘Thilavaa’ and ‘Hifz’ are approved for online education; however, examinations are required to be held physically.
The meeting discussed methods and strategies to develop Quran-related courses in collaboration with MQA. Universities and colleges can now develop and submit their Quran-related courses to the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) for approval. Once approved by the MQA, any course related to Quranic studies can be conducted under the E-Learning modality.
